Welcome to the Superior Court of California, County of Shasta employment page. We are pleased that you are interested in a career with the Court. Our Court has an important role in the administration of justice within Shasta County, and this page will provide you with information on current employment opportunities as well as other information regarding employment with the Court.

- Health Benefits: The Court offers medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage to full-time employees and their dependents, and provides a generous contribution to these insurance benefits. Employees who “opt-out” of the medical plan may be eligible to receive a monthly stipend.
- Life and Disability Insurance: The Court provides a paid basic term life insurance plan for full-time employees, and also offers optional supplemental term life and dependent life insurance and disability policies that the employee may purchase.
- Holidays: Full-time employees receive 13 paid holidays per year.
- Vacation: Full-time employees accrue 10 days for the first three 3 years of service; 15 days 4-9 years; 17 days 10-15 years; and 20 days after 16 years of service.
- Sick Leave: Full-time employees accrue 12 days per year. Upon retirement and to the extent allowed by law, unused and unpaid sick leave may be converted to service time for retirement credit. All other employees will accrue sick leave in accordance with the Paid Sick Leave Law under the Healthy Workplace Healthy Family Act of 2014 (AB 1511).
- Flexible Spending Plans: Full-time employees are eligible to participate in a voluntary health care or dependent care flexible spending account. The maximum contribution limits are equal to the statutory contribution limits determined by the IRS.
- Retirement: Court employees, meeting membership eligibility requirements, participate in a defined-benefit pension plan through the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). Retirement benefit formulas and employee contribution rates are determined by whether the employee had prior CalPERS membership.
- Deferred Compensation Plan: Full-time employees may participate in a voluntary 457 deferred compensation plan; paid 100% by the employee. Eligibility for employer-matching is determined by classification.

All employees are required to execute an Oath of Allegiance to the United States and the State of California.
As a continuing phase of the selection process, each person appointed to a regular position with the Court shall serve a probationary period of twelve (12) months, during which the employee may be dismissed without cause or right of appeal.
Shasta County Superior Court only accepts job applications when there is an active or continuous recruitment.
All application materials will be reviewed after the filing deadline to determine if the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the position. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited for further evaluation; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee inclusion in the selection process. Depending on the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of application review, supplemental appraisal review, written exam, performance or practical exam, panel oral interview, oral interview, or any combination thereof.
The Court will establish an eligibility list; ranking applicants based upon the examination process. The eligibility list generally remains active for up to one year and is used to fill current and future vacancies in the same classification. The Court reserves the right to modify the selection/examination process at its discretion.
The starting salary is usually the first step of the salary range. There are six steps in each salary range (A-F).
Sworn peace officer classifications have seven steps in the salary range (A-G).
Clerical, Professional and Supervisory classifications are represented by United Public Employees of California, Local 792. Several membership options are available.
Sworn staff within the Marshal’s Office are represented by the Deputy Marshal’s Association (positions include Deputy Marshal, Marshal’s Corporal and Marshal’s Sergeant). There are additional insurance benefits available to DMA members.
